Innovation is changing process, behaviours and environment to generate increased value compared to industry best practice. Through research, development and technology, we generate an improved capability to deliver better value for businesses and rail customers.
This workstream provides a long-term vision and action plan for developing and integrating new technologies into the railway. Aligned to the industry’s Rail Technical Strategy and Capability Delivery Plan (CDP), the workstream will increase the market attractiveness of rail to new and existing suppliers through initiatives designed to embed a culture of innovation in the industry, and improve testing, trialling and product acceptance.
Our ultimate aim is to create a sustainable rail industry and supply chain that offers better services, better journeys and better value to customers. In the shorter term the workstream is supporting the development of the twelve Key Capabilities within the CDP, focusing on the first milestones within the plan, which include: unlocking the potential of remote condition monitoring; increased use of automation; better integration with other transport modes, and technology transfer from adjacent sectors to increase capacity.
